I want every homeschool family to be able to use Life in the Mundane, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, captions or other tools. As a mom of kids with learning differences, accessibility matters a lot to me.

My goal

I’m working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. The site doesn’t fully meet that standard yet, but it’s the goal I use as I update pages.

What I’ve done so far

  • My resource pages are organized with clear headings, and many have a “jump to” menu so you can skip to the section you need.
  • Images on my resource pages have descriptions for people using screen readers.
  • My newer page designs use dark text on light backgrounds so they’re easier to read.
  • The sign-up forms, search boxes and filters in my media libraries have labels that screen readers can read.
  • An accessibility toolbar on the Site lets you adjust things like text size and contrast.
  • My videos are on YouTube, where you can turn on captions.

Known limitations

  • Printables and PDFs: most of my printables are designed visually, as images, so screen readers may not be able to read them.
  • Older posts and pages: some older blog posts and pages were made before these updates and may be missing image descriptions or have layout issues.
  • Video captions: my videos rely on YouTube’s automatic captions, which aren’t always accurate.
  • Other companies’ sites: embedded videos, payment pages and links to other websites are run by other companies, so I can’t control how accessible they are.

Need help or an accessible version?

If something on my site is hard to use, or you need a printable or page in another format (like a plain-text version of what’s on a printable), please email me at hello@lifeinthemundane.com. Let me know which page or printable it is and what would help. I’ll do my best to reply within a few business days and find a way to get you what you need.

Feedback

I’m always learning, and I’d love to hear how I can make this site easier to use.
